St. William Sterling Medal
St. William of Vercelli was raised as an orphan. After a pilgrimage to Compostella, he became a hermit. Eventually, he attracted so many followers as to begin a community, which eventually joined with the Benedictines. He is depicted with a wolf carrying saddle bags, because once, when rebuilding a church, he caught sight of a wolf just as it bit his donkey's throat. To punish the wolf, he told it that it must now do the work that the donkey had done, which it humbly did.
