This book is an English translation of the original German, I Was Allowed to Serve Him, an inside look at Pope Pius XII that reveals his character, his virtues, his struggles and his spirituality. Written by the Bavarian Sister who took care of Pacelli's household for 40 years, both before and after his election to the pontificate, at the order of her Superior General. It was not published until shortly before her own death in 1983.
